may HAVE BEEN uARRIED INTO OPEN SEA
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright Received Wednesday, 9 p.m. SYDNEY, March 15.
A radio message received in Sydnoy to-day states that tho steamer Talleyrand lias abandoned its search for the Japanese tramp steamer Kinsen Maru, having combed out CO square miles south of the spot indicated as tho last known position of tho missing vessel.
Tho masters of others vessels in the same area declare that the weather prevailing when tho S.O.S. was received would have carried tho Kinsen Maru north-cast into the open sea. The Talleyrand, which is bound for Rabaul, lias been authorised, if necessary', to continue the search until Friday morning.
Talleyrand to Continue Search
Per Press Association WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department (Mr. G. McNamara) has received the following message broadcast by the Talleyrand at 8.31 p.m.; “Have decided to continue search for tho Kinsen Maru.” Vessel May Have Suddenly Foundered SUFFICIENT LIFEBOATS FOE WHOLE CREW SYDNEY, Mar. 15. Fears are now entertained that the silence of tho Japanese tranrp steamer Kinsen Maru since tho afternoon message of Monday, is accounted for by her sudden foundering. Hope, however, has not been abandoned for there are more than sufficient lifeboats to accommodate the whole crew. Last night the master of the motor ship, Talleyrand, wirelessed that he had searched from 2 o 'clock until dark in a northerly direction from the position given by Kinsen Maru at noon on Monday, but had seen nothing. He will continue the search during the night.
From all points the eighteen ships near the Kinsen Mara’s last known position will converge to-day in a comprehensive search for the vessel. Gale conditions wero experienced yesterday along the Queensland coast and the progress of many ships lmve been impeded.
