Trolley Buses forced of tie Road
GOVERNMENT CRITICISED Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Recent legislation affecting the Christchurch tramways, and in particular the trolley buses, was the subject of caustic commont at a meeting of the Tramway Board to-dayi Members declared that the action of the Government was calculated to put the trolley buses off the road. Mr. E. H. Andrews, the chairman, said that the Government had acted, it seemed, in the interests of American or Russian petrol. The trolley buses were using up to £3OO worth of electricity a. year each, yet the Government was forcing the board to use petrol buses, which, despite taxation, could be run cheaper than w r as nowpossible with trolley buses. He was suro there would be no more trolley buses imported into New Zealand while this legislation stood.
