Amateur Athletics
The usual athletic and cycling masting was held at the Sportsground last evening. It was controlled by the Old Boys Amateur Athletic Club, the members of which got the events off without delay. The results were as follow: A Grade Cycle Race, One Lap: E. Lawrence (scr.) 1, M. Gardner (10yds) 2, E. Lawrence (40yds.) 3. Won by a wheel. Time, 42 3-ssec. There were eight starters.
75 Yards Handicap: J. Willoughby (Gyds.) 1, C. Yortt (6yds.) 2, E. Hoddinott (7yds.) 3. Time, S 3-sscc. There were seven starters, and there was a very close finish.
B. Grade Half Mile Cycle: 11. Essex (20yds.) 1, H. Gardner (30yds.) 2, I. Davey (40yds.) 3. Time, 65 4-ssec. There were ten starters. Won by a length. 440 Yards Eelay (teams of 4): Old Boys 1, Kia Toa 2. The only starters. Won by ten yards. Time, 48 4-ssec. A Grade Thneo Mile Cycle: E. Lawrence (scr.) 1, B. Lawrence (260yds.) 2, M. Gardner (160yds.) 3. Won easily Time, 7min. 32 2-ssec. There were eight starters.
B Grade li Miles Cycle: C. Prouso 1, H. Essex 2, L. Hayes 3. Won by eight yards. Time, 3min. 36sce. Boys’ Two-Lap Cycle Eacc: Jamieson (20yds.) 1, Johnson (scr.) 2, Cook (70yds) 3. Won by half a wheel. Time, lmin. 42 4-ssec. Thirteen starters. Boys’ 75 Yards Handicap: Meecham I, Evans 2, Murphy 3. Time, 13 l-ssec. Seventeen starters.
One Mile Flat Baee: A. MacDonald (40yds.) 1, L. Cowling (80yds.) 2, J. Willoughby (100yds.) 3. Won easily by 30 yards. Time, 4min. 52sec. Five starters.
