Wellington Boat Wins First Sanders Cup Race

Per Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. The Wellington boat Lavina won the first race for the Sanders Cup, sailed this afternoon, by a margin of 4min. 3sec. over the Canterbury boat Avenger. The race was sailed in a flulcey northwest wind, with a succession of alternate Squalls and calms. The Avenger was in an apparently hopeless position, being last at the end of two rounds, but made up nine minutes on the Lavina in the last round and heading the other two boats. The finishing order was:—Lavina (Wellington) 1, Avenger (Canterbury) 2, Idler (Auckland) 3, Avalon (Otago) 4.
