On Saturday aftornoou a team from tlier Poxton Tennis Club visited Sharif non where, iu a match with the Shaunon Club, they were defeated by H sets (123 games) to 5 sets (85 games). The detailed results are 'as follow, Shannon players being mentioned first:—

Ladios ’ Singles: Mrs. Long 7, beat Mrs. Ball 1; Miss Brown 8, beat Miss Perreau 6 ; Mrs. Cronquest 7, beat Miss Thompson 4 ; Miss Moynihan 7, beat Mrs. Eruera 5. Men’s Doubles: Graham and Bobiu< son 5, lost to Proctor and Gavin 9; King and Tippler 9 ; beat Bead and Chrystall 2.

Cards. In a challenge match for the Post Cup, to be played this evening (Tuesday), the Poxton Card Club will be represented by the following : W. Williams (capt.), H. Hamer, W. Bowden, M. Anderson, J. Coley, E. Parkin, L. McAllister, H. McGregor, M. McGregor, K McGregor, J. McGregor, J. Lyons, J. Hirini, E. Beilis, J. Sliorthousc, A. Taylor and Simon. Poxton Amateur Cycling Club.

A committee of the Poxton Amateur Cycling Club was held on Priday evening, presided over by Mr. H. Hamer (president). Also present wore Messrs. J, Satherley, J. Preston, M. Symes, T. Carter, W. Neville, J. Purcell, Bloomfield, J. Srnitn, L. Thompson, and G. Shaw.

A discussion ensued concerning the safety and convenience of Main Street for starting and finishing races and it was decided that in future the starting and finishing posts be at Cook Street corner in order to get away from the parking area. It was decided that a one lap race for boys under 12, be started ht 0 pun., the event for boys under 10 to cemmence at 0.30 p.m., and the senior event to commence immediately after the conclusion of the 6.30 event. Messrs. J. Shorthouse and T. Carter were appointed judges. It was decided to hold an open road race on Easter Saturday between Foxton and Levin, via Shannon, terminating in Poxton after two circuits of the Johnston Street block. The race is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Entrance feo Is.

Messrs. G. Yorkc, D. Wilson, and W. Bowden were elected to the committee.

It was decided that in future, points be altered to 6,4, 2, and 1, for Ist, 2nd, 3rd and 4th places instead of 4, 3,2, and 1. The points secured by riders to date, adjusted in accordance with the above are now r as follow: —J. Purcell 11, J. Preston S, J. Smith 6, J. Satherley 6, L. Thompson 6. M. Symes 2. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. li. Owen leave Poxton this w'eelc on a four weeks’ tour of Auckland and the far north. Constable Houston, of l’ahiatua, will be in charge locally during Mr. Owen’s absence.

Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Mason and daughters, of Park Wtrcct, have returned from an extended tour of the North Island.

Miss O. A. Yorke has been appointed relieving probationary assistant teacner on the staff of the Foxton District High Bchool for the first term. (Sister M. Rosalie, Convent of Compassion, Buckle Street, Wellington, paid a short visit to Foxton last week to sec her sister, Mrs. P. Skcilen, of Liddell Street. She was accompanied by Sister M. Paul.

During tho Rev. Father Brenan’s absence from New Zealand, the Rev. Father O’Sullivan, of Kaikoura, will take charge of tho Foxton-Shannon parish. Tho Rev. Father O ’Sullivan arrived in Foxton on Friday.
