BECKONING FIGURE OF BRITANNIA GIVES OFFENCE. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, Jan. 27. The first instance of the symbolical representation of Britannia being considered lewd has arisen through the Overseas Trade Department exhibiting a poster containing invitations to the British Industries Pair and surmounted by a figuro of Britannia,' which lias been withdrawn from Turkey, Egypt and Syria owing to her beckoning attitude offending certain Oriental religious susceptibilities. The Department, is risking the effect on other people’s morals by exhibiting 10,000 similar posters throughout Britain.
