The prompt response of the Central Fire Brigade to a call from a Main street garage yesterday resulted in a lire which had broken out in oil and benzine around a car being suppressed with practiealy negligible damage. An unfortunate accident marred the conclusion of tho Manawatu Boy Scouts’ camp which broke up at Ngaputahi (Pohangina) on Saturday morning. During a swimming excursion one of the boys, Norman Adamson, aged 14 years, who resides at 50 Stanley avenue, took a dive off tho bank of tho Pohangina river, but entered shallow water, with the result that his head struck a rock. He was brought to the bank and the Free Ambulance was summoned. Investigation showed that the unfortunate boy had sustained severely lacerated wounds on the head which necessitated his removal to the Palmerston North Hospital. As the outcome of a largely attended and representative meeting called by the Chamber of Commerco on Saturday morning, it was decided to hold a public meeting at the Opera House tonight, when the whole question of the exchange, with special reference to tho Government’s action at tho present time, will be considered. Considerable interest is being taken in the matter, and in addition to other speakers, tho member for the district, Mr. J. A.
