Freezing Workers at Cricks

A pleasant day was spent on Wednesday when 30 members of tho Longburn branch of the Freezing Workers’ Union, together with their wives, journeyed to Feilding to play a game of - cricket against tho Feilding branch at Kowhai Park. The ladies played rounders amt had a social day generally, while the Feilding ladies supplied morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Everyone had high praiso for tho wonderful ground tho Feilding Borough Council provided free. The game was rather exciting. Feilding batted first for 108, while Longburn met disaster early and had to follow on, only making 69 runs in tho first innings. The batting of Mabey and Shearin was a bright feature. Shearin made 33, including tu o sixes. Flannigan made 64 in twenty minutes and tho innings ended at IS9. Feilding -wickets fell fast, but the fieldsmea being over-keen, many bj es were run up. The last 'batsman was caught when scores were even, only to be dropped. One more run was added when tho last batsman was . caught, thus the game ended in Feilding s favour by ono run. Dinner was partaken of and the evening spent in dancing and community singing at the Foresters’ Hall till midnight. Everybody voted the day a most enjoyable one.
