REDUCTIONS IN SALARIES MADE

After a. lengthy discussion in committee at its meeting on _ Wednesday the Kiwitea County Council decided to reduce the wages of its outside staff by Is per day and to dispense with the services of one of its overseeis. lho office staff and the overseer were also subjected to a 5 per cent, reduction in salary. Mr. F. H. Eggers, overseer lor the southern ridings, will now take charge of tho whole of the count}, assuming the duties relinquished by Mr. C. Stent, late overseer for tho northern ridings. The council was not unanimous on tho point of dispensing with Mr. Stent's services, a division revealing a close vote. In view of the extra travelling entailed in his new capacity, Mr. Eggers was granted an increase in his annual travelling allowance from £l-14 to £2OO. Theso alterations will take effect on April 1.
