From Our Own Correspondent School Prize-Giving.
Ideal weather conditions made the annual prize-giving function a real treat. Sports were hold in the school grounds and results were as follows: — Girls, 75 yards: Zelma Terry 1, Ngo Russell 2. Boys’ 75 yards: Neil Beckett 1, Billie Hampson 2. Girls’ threelegged: Norma Terry and Sybil Young 2. Boys’ three-legged: Stewart Moyes and George Hampson 1. 75 yards girls: Madge Lynch 1, Audrey Russell 2. 75 yards boys: Stewart Moyes 1, Leo Crowe 2. Girls’ hack race: Madge Lynch 1, Mary Gretton 2. Boys’ sack race: Leo Crowe 1, Darcy Lynch 2. Girls’ 100 yards: Bernice Beale 1, Sybil Young 2. Boys’ 100 yards: Harold Aidrich 1, Harold Mcßrearty 2. Girls’ egg and spoon race: Elsie Crowe 1, Bessie Mcßrearty 2. Girls' potato race: Elsie Crowe 1. Boys’ potato race: Darcy Lynch 1, Stewart Moyes 2. Pick-a-back race: Harold Aldrich and Ray Gooch 1. Obstacle race: Leo Crowe 1, Darcy Lynch 2. Married ladies’: Mrs. Beckett 1, Mrs. T. Lynch 2. The prizes won during the year were presented by Mr. Mcßrearty, chairman of tho school committee, who eongratulatd the teachers, Mr. Rankin and Miss Blake, on tho year’s work. Ten scholars sat for proficiency and seven gained their certificates. Mr. Rankin said how pleased he was to see so many of the parents present and was sure the children were too.
The prizes 'were as follows:—Primer 1, Gwenth Crawford; primer 3, Stewart Mcßreart.y; primer 4, Winton James 1, Connie Nolan 2; standard 1, Ngo Bussell 1, Gloria Mcßrcarty 2; standard 2, Tony Beckett 1, Winnie Terry 2; standard 3, Audrey Bussell 1, Alan Lynch 2; standard 4, Stewart Moycs 1, Roland Terry 2; standard 5, Madge Lynch 3, Darcy Lynch 2; standard 6, Boyce Lucke dux, Norma Terry. Bernice Beale, Sybil Yeung, Harold Craw, prof.eioncy. Mr. Swallow’s spec's] for industry was won by Norma Terry (girls), Stewart Moycs second. Gardening: Darcy Lynch, Goff Smith. Mangels: Darcy Lynch. Sewing: Boyce Tucker, Audrey Bussell, Ngo Bussell. Attendance: Norma Terry, Zelma Terry, Sybil Young, Audrey Swainson, Harold M.cBrearty.
Afternoon tea was served by the committeemen, their wives and the senior scholars.
