CONSIDERABLE DECLINE SHOWN Building work to tho value of £72,907 was authorised by the Palmerston North City Council during tho year ju'st ending, representing a considerable decline when compared with the figures for preceding years. Tho total number of permits issued was 245, including 62 for new dwellings. December proved ono of the poorest months for years as far as building activity is concerned, only eight permits being issued for work estimatod to cost £2885. Of this sum £llOO was for tho erection of two new dwellings. Tho boom year for home-building was in 1926, when 220 permits were issued. In 1931 7S new houses wont up, and in 1930, 150.
