Reviews and Latest Track Form Throughout the Dominion

Racing enthusiasts throughout the Dominion will find plenty to interest them on Monday lor Boxing Day ushers in the big holiday carnivals. The two big meetings will be held at Ellerslie and Awapuni while there will be racing also at New Plymouth, Dunedin, Waipukurau, Poverty Bay and Westland. Trotting enthusiasts will be catered for with the South Wairarapa, Core, Ashburton, and Westport midsummer fixtures. Chief interest in this part of the North Island will centre upon Awapuni where excellent fields are engaged and thore is every prospect of exciting racing. The Manawatu Cup will see a strong field competing and the other events are well filled with gallopers light up to the standard that is usually attracted to this meeting.

The Manawatu Cup. The Cup, to bo decided over a mile and a half, will bo contested by a really high class field, Scatown, Cluny and Red Heckle sharing the top rung of the handicap ladder with 5.9 apiece. Soat.own is reported to be well but lie may need tho race. Cluny raced well at Wellington when he beat Fast Passage, the New Zealand Cup winner, in the handicap in which Red Heckle was in third place a length away from the others. Red Heckle’s recent form lias been good. Arrow Lad, last year’s winner of the Cup, is nicely in with 8.7 and his victory the second day at Feilding suggests that lie is at tho top of his form. Next on tho list is High Falutin’ who made up a lot of ground with a brilliant late run to finish second to Arrow Lad at Feilding. 'High Falutin’ is trained by a veteran, F. Tilley, who has already saddled winners of this race. Tilley perhaps, has no peer in the preparation of horses for long distance events. Tigerism won the principal events at Feilding and W r oodville but lie will not take his placo in the Manawatu Cup field. Chopin is another good performer and he might have been unlucky to have been beaten by Tigcrism at Woodville. Grand Jury has not shown his usual good form this season. Spearful, however, ran well forward at Feilding, and the 1931 N.Z. Cup winner, would only need to be right to have a royal show with 7.12. Retract has been working well at Opaki and he is a good sort when right. Strcwd won at Woodville over a mile and a distance but ho may find the mile and a half a bit beyond him. Joie do Val is a good hack and he may have to bo considered as he stays on well. With a light boy in the saddle lie should hold Shrewd safe. The betting may favour the chances of— HIGH FALUTIN’, SPEARFUL. SEATOWN, RIDING ENGAGEMENTS. i The following riding engagements have been announced for Boxing Day : c M. H. Nicol.—Juggle. s A.
