The only radium refinery in the British Empire will be operating within ton days. Made from Canadian ore, the radium will prove Canada’s challenge to the Belgian syndicate which controls the world’s supply. Fifty-six tons of pitchblends of almost unbelievable richness, mined in the Great Bear Lake, district in the Far North of Canada, aro stacked at the plant here. According to Canadian Government geologists it averages between 40 and 50 per cent, of uranium-oxide, and will produce about 125 milligrammes of refined radium per ton.
