From Our Own Correspondent. Fire Board. The quarterly meeting of the Woodvillo Firo Board was held on Tuesday afternoon, there being present Messrs H. P. Horne (chairman),. J. Lic*-r, i\. H. Hustwick, J. W. Norrie and V. G. Hay. Tho fire brigade superintendent, Mr. H. McNeil, reported as follows: — Six practices had been held during the quarter and tho attendances had been very good. The resignation of Fireman Pritchard, who had completed 15 years of service, was tendered owing to his being unable to attend musters, o-ie. Tho sounding of tho siren haci »een altered from 7.45 n.m. on Monday mornings to 9 a.m. every day. The superintendent said ho had obtained the services of Mr. Knoffke, who was at present sleeping at the quarters. The question of tarring and sanding the roadway in front of tho station was left with tho local committco with power to act. It was decided to write Fireman Pritchard congratulating him on his long service as a fireman. Horticultural Society. A meeting of the general committee of the Woodville Horticultural Society was held on Monday evening when Mr. M. Forster presided over a good attendance. The main business of the meeting was reviewing tho schedule for the Autumn show to be held in March next. Tho definition of a professional was also discussed at length and it was finally decided that the following definition bo adopted and included in tho schedule: “A person whose entire livelihood is derived from raising and selling flowers or vegetables or flower or vegetable plants shall bo deemed a professional.” The quarterly meeting of the Loyal Tamaki Lodge of Past Granas, M.U.1.0.0.P., was held in Woodville on Monday evening, the president, l’.G. Bro. T. Moir, presiding over a large attendance of members. Visitors from the Loyal Manawatu Lodge of Past Grands were also present. The election of officers for the ensuing term resulted as follows:—President, P.G. Bro. F. Mackic; vice-presidont, P.G. Bro. May; warden, P.G. Bro. O. C. Morris; conductors, P.P.’s Bros. W. H. Toogood and Studd. Following the election of officers the New Zealand Grand Master, Bro. H. S. M. Quigley, duly installed the newly-elected members into their respective chairs. Two new members

took their Past Grand degrees and were then initiated as members of the Loyal Tamaki Lodge. Interesting information was given by Mr. H. S. M. Quigley regarding tho new ritual for Past Grand Lodges. It was decided that the next meeting of tho Lodge be hold at Dannevirke in the first week in March. Bowls. An inter-club'match between Vi oodr villo and Pahiatua was played on the Pahiatua green on Wednesday afternoon resulting in a win for Pahiatua by 309 to 81. Ono of the six rinks also played a challenge match for the Gosling Stars but was decisively beaten by 22 to 8. Combined doubles: Ralfe and Mrs. Henderson beat Eennett and Miss Mules, 9 6; Sneddon and Mrs. Ralfe beat Shearman and Miss Grinlinton, 9—4; Duncan and Miss Kearney beat Burlace and Miss Peebles, 9—5; Gould and Miss Simpkin beat Gillespie and Miss Kirkpatrick, 9 —5. Totals: Bulls 15 sets and 144 games; Woodville 1 set and 74 games.
