Gardner on the mandolin guitar. The standard 6 children then made a presentation of a shaving companion to their teacher, Mr. A. H. To mark the conclusion of the year’s activities the Girl Guides entertained their parents and friends at a tea party on Tuesday. Games an<’ competitions were held, the winners being: Laughing competition, May Exton; parts of the . body, Joy Simes; word building, Kathleen Bass; surprise packet, Mrs. Bass. A pleasing little ceremony was performed by Ada Gray, who on behalf of the Guides, presented to their captain, Miss E. Quarrie, a crystal vase and handkerchief in appreciation of the interest she ha ’ taken in them. Miss Bovis spoke a few words on behalf of the committee "id- wished the Girl Guides a happy Christmas and prosperous New Year. The gathering was brought to a close by the singing of “Taps.” Children’s Calf Clubs. The final judging of the season in the calf rearing competition under the auspices of the Horowhenua Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Club took place at Levin on Friday. This year the district had been enlarged with the result that entries from pupils of the Shannon, Makerua, Opiki, Manakau and Te Horo schools were added to the competition. The three best calves from each school entered in the competitions were brought to Levin for the final awards.. The results of the group competitions are given below. Northern Division. The trophies were handed to the winners by Mrs. Kilsbv and she placed the championship ribbon around tne neck of the best calf.
