Christmas Party at Tokomaru
From Our Own Correspondent. One of tho most enjoyable functions over held in tho Tokomaru hall ovontuated last Saturday night under tho auspices of tho Tokomaru Womon’s Institute. It was a Christmas party for all the children who wished to attend; institute members’ children and others all combined. The evening was opened at 7 o’clock and many were ready waiting on tho doorsteps long before that time. From 7 o’clock until 8.30, the children were entertained witn games and dances, tho floor being crowded with happy little people. Father Christmas was very popular when ho arrived and each child was given a ticket arid claimed tho corresponding number on the Christmas tree. The tree had been beautifully decorated by members of tho institute wnii balloons, all the toys, silver tinsels and numerous other pretty articles. As usual the best item of tho evening tor tho children after tho arrival of Father Cnristmas was the splendid supper. This was thoroughly enjoyed and when the younger folk had finished the adults were similarly entertained. Tho floor was given over to the adult.- soon aiter 10 o’clock and dancing was enjoyed until midnight. Alusie for dancing was supplied by Airs. Atkinson, Alcssrs Fatrick, Parr and Bayliss and Aliss D. Webb. Thanks arc due to Air. R. Bayliss who carried out the duties of Ai.C. and many other duties assigned to him during tho night’s programme. Mr. Bayliss is always a willing helper for anything held in the hall, and his help was greatly appreciated on Saturday night. A very delectable sponge cake donated by Airs. Alve was sold by Dutch auction and was bought by a visitor. A competition for a Christmas cake donated by Airs. Steel, of Palmerston North, was won by Air. B. Stokes. Alauy thanks aro also due to these two ladies for their. donations. Alesdames Burt and Anderson were capable doorkeepers and every institute member was a helper in somo way during the evening. A very pleasant evening concluded at midnight with the singing j. “Auld Lang Syne” and every child and grown-up who attended must surely have carried array a very clear memory of a happy evening.
