Wholesale Slaughter by Soviet Economy Axe
ENTIRE ECONOMIC STRUCTURE CHANGED United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Monday, 7.10 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 21. The News-Chronicle’s Moscow correspondent reports that 10 to 20 per cent, of the Soviet’s eight million bureaucrats have been “axed” under a decree the publication of which has been postponed until the fifteenth anniversary of the revolution rejoicings are ended. The great syndicates controlling industry, commerce and agriculture are abolished as superfluous. Half the Moscow offices of the provincial political and trade organisations will he closed and 83 per cent, of the staff summarily dismissed. The decree affects the entire political and economic life of Russia from the powerful commissars iu Moscow, Tiflis and Kharkov to the village clerks.
