The guests of the Palmerston North Rotary yesterday were Messrs. E. P. Wise and T. Wass, of Palmerston North.

Mr. John Hopkins, who is well known throughout Now Zealand, has been spending a short time in Palmerston North. Ho leaves this morning for tho North.

Miss C. Huggins, of PalmerstonNorth, who was knocked off her bicycle on Saturday evening last, is now making satisfactory progress at the Palmerston North Public Hospital. A cable messago states that Ernest McKinley, the New Zealand singer of Maori songs, returned to Sydney yesterday from England after a world tour with tho Westminster Glee Singers. Senior-Sergeant Whitchouse, in charge of the Palmerston North Station, is scheduled to resume his duties to-day after a fortnight’s leave. During his absenco Sergeant Culloty has been relieving.

Inspector Dinnie, of the New Zealand Finger Print Department, Wellington, brother of Donald Dinnie, the well-known Scottish athlete, paid a week-end visit to his niece, Mrs. Bagnail, of Amcsbury Street, Palmerston North.

"During the year death has removed one of our most valuable members of the executive, in the person of the late Mr. Harry Parsonage. Not only was he well up in swimming law, but his knowledge in all matters pertaining to swimming was proverbial. His enthusiasm in coaching and training swimmers was an object lesson to us all. These attributes, together with his geniality and willingness to help at all times, will bo sadly missed, and his death, especially to tho Fcilding club, is a very severo loss. To Mrs. Parsonage and tho Fcilding club wo extend our sympathy,” state's the annual report of the Manawatu Swimming Centre.

The death is announced, the age of 72 years, of xVJLr. Charles ede-s, one of the best known business men in Auckland. He w r as a local director of the Waihi Gold Mining Company, and of many local companies, was manager of the Now Zealand Mines Trust, and a director of tho New Zealand Insurance Company. He was also a member of tho Defence Expenditure Commission, 1918, and a member of the council of Auckland University College. Mr. Rhodes is best known throughout tho Dominion as one of the founders of the Rotary movement in this country. With Sir George Fowlds ho was responsible for the formation of the Palmerston North Club and presided at its first meeting, taking a keen interest in its subsequent activities. At a meeting of tho Rotary Club last evening Rotarian F. J. Nathan, foundation president, paid tribute to tho fine work accomplished by Mr. Rhodes, and on his initiative a motion of sympathy was carried with the relatives.
