Notes of the Day

Yesterday anniversary services in, connection with the Feilding Methodist Sunday school were held. The morning and. afternoon services were conducted by the Bev. A. N. Scotter, 8.A., of St. Paul’s, Palmerston North, and the evening service was tanon oj the Rev. F. Copeland. The children, under the baton of Mr. N. L. Shelton, provided a splendid selection of hymns for the occasion.

Discussing the question of canvassing for donations for the forthcoming show, at Friday’s meeting of the Feilding A. and P. Association, the president, Mr. L. J. Wild, said that it was imperative that to conduct a show befitting the town and district, the association should have funds. He urged the members to put forth their best efforts in order to secure the utmost financial support. Concluding, Mr. Wild said he would head the list tran a cheque for £5 ss, the gift being received with applause. On Friday evening a party of entertainers from St. Paul's Tennis Club, Feilding, journeyed to Marton where eoncert was given in the Marton Presbyterian hall. The results of the competitions eonducted by the Feilding Horticultural Society at the flower show on Friday were as follow:—Mrs. G. Fitzpatrick (cake), Mrs. E. H. Lands (dinner), while “A Friend” won the cushion.

There will be a special meeting of the Feilding Borough Council this evening to consider tho Urban Farm Lands Rating Bill. The last week-end in Feilding was the third since summer sport commenced and each has brought with it unfavourable weather. The light showers which fell on Saturday did not prevent bowlers and cricketers from pursuing their pastimes but conditions were far from pleasant. Round about 6 o’clock steady rain set in and soon aftor the town experienced a regutor deluge, resulting iu minor flooding in the business area. A north-westerly gale then sprang up and raged throughout the night and yesterday whith fortunatelv was fino and warm.

The milking shed of Mr. Brewster’s on Spur road, Makino, was destroyed by lire late on Friday night. Part of the machinery was damaged. The Feilding Post Office clock stopped skortly after 5 o’clock on Saturday evening causing many people to doubt the accuracy of their timepieces. The trouble was rectified an hour or so later.
