Death Fallows Strange Mishap

Per Press Association. NAPIER, Last Night,

Gavin Stuart, tho boy who was injured by a hammer at a sports meeting last night, died this morning.

Concussion was sustained by Gavin Stuart when he was hit on the side of the head by a 10-pound hammer which had been thrown by an athlete named Campbell when practising on McLean park at the conclusion of the Napier athletic meeting. As Campbell was about to throw the hammer, ho either slipped or the hammer loft in a direction he did not anticipate and went towards two boys sitting on tho fence 50 or 60 yards away. Both boys were knocked from the fence. Stuart was struck on tho side of tho head, while the other boy was struck only by tho chain. Tho latter soon recovered, but Stuart was removed to the hospital. His condition is serious.
