MRS. ESTHER OSBORNE There passed away at the "Palmerston North Hospital on Saturday last after a long period of suffering an old resident of .tho city in the person oi Mrs. Esther Osborne. In company with her husband, the deceased lady came to New Zealand from Bristol in tho sailing ship Kaikoura in 1887, and for some 24 years Mr. and Mrs. Osborne made Wellington their home, Mr. Osborne having been in business a 3 a milk vendor on a largo scale. In 1910 Mr, and Mrs. Osborne came to Palmerston North to reside and for some years Mr. Osborne was an employee of tho Borough Council. Of lato years the state of health of Mrs. Osborne has confined her to her home, although she had ouly been compelled to take to her bed some three months ago. Late last week Mrs. Osborne entered hospital for treatment, but she died on the afternoon of her admission at the oge of 7G years. A husband is left to mourn his loss, there being no members of the family or relatives of cither Mr. and Mrs. Osborne in the Do-
minion. MISS ELIZABETH JANET PASSEY. Miss Elizabeth Janet Passey, whose death occurred at Lhe residence of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Passey, No. 1 Collingwood street, on Friday last, was born in Palmerston North and was educated at Brooklyn, Wellington. The elder twin daughter and the oldest of a family of three daughters and one son, Miss Passey sustained an injury to her hip when seven years of age and in the subsequent years suffered from a painful disability. At the time ua the original accident, trifling though it then appeared, the deceased young lady spent five months in the Wellington Hospital. About three years ago Mr. Passey returned to Palmerston North to take up his residence at Hokowhitu, and it was Miss Passey’s ill fortune to spend six and a half months of this year confined to her bed. After recovering, she was about again and was preparing for a holiday trip to New Plymouth, when she was again stricken with illness. Throughout her suffering deceased displayed wonderful fortitude and her bright nature was never affected. As a result she was beloved by ail who knew her, and her death, at the age of 18 years came as a distinct shock to her many friends.
