Local Body Road Costing
Per Press Association, WELLINGTON, Last Night. In the House of Representatives today Mr. J. N. Massey asked whether approval had been given to a resolution passed at a recent road costing conference commending the form of a standard road time-sheet and urging county councils to adopt such a timesheet or at least provide in their office systems for the form of information as set out in such time-sheet. He suggested that if approval had not yet been givon tho Government should consider tho advisability of advising all county councils to defer bringing into operation any new road costing system which might add to administrative costs until after an inquiry had been held into local bodies administration when no doubt evidence would be taken on questions of uniform road costing systems and the standardisation of accounts. Hon. A. Hamilton replied that no decision had yet been reached giving effect to the recommendation of the road-costing conference. The suDjeet was an important one and he appreciated its connection with the proposals for tho reform of local government administration. Ho would confer with ms colleagues affected by the proposals and would give due consideration to the point represented by Mr. Massey. Legislative Council Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Tho Legislative Council met at 2.30.
