Scene of Geneva Riots Like a Shambles
CITY *MILL IN A STATE OF SIEGE. NATIONALIST ' DEMAND AROUSES RESENTMENT OF MOB
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, Nov. 14. “I left Geneva in a state of siege,” Sir Donald Cameron told the Sun. “Troops patrol the streets and challenge those crossing the barricades separating the riot areas from the residential areas. Hotels arc heavily guarded for fear of attempts to smash the windows overlooking the Lake. “The immediate cause of the riot was a demand by a Nationalist mass meeting in the Exhibition Hall to the Genevese Government to oxpel leading Communists. The speeches were communicated to a crowd of five thousand outside, provoking street fights, with military intervention. “I visited the scene the following morning and fond the Square like a shambles. The asphalt was stained with blood, brains had spattered the walls, and human fragments were still on the roadway. Some people had had their heads shot off. It was officially disclosed that many of the wounded wore not likely to recover. Numerous minor injuries were ignored.
