Dropped as Government Measure

BILL TOR REGISTRATION OF TOMATO GROWERS Por Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. A last-minute decision by Cabinet on tho eve of tho introduction of the Tomato Growers Registration Bill has resulted in tho Government refusing to sponsor the measure. This means that it will not appear this session, and probably the Government will in future have nothing to do with it. The bill’s proposal for tho registration of all growers with over 500 plants, who would be required to pay a levy which would bo used in organising the industry, found favour with certain interests in the South Island, It was intended that the bill should bo introduced in tho House of Representatives this week and tho law. draftsman prepared the measure, which was sent to Cabinet for approval. It is understood that certain members of Cabinet were definitely hostile to tho bill, and it was abruptly turned down wben it came up for consideration.
