George Bancroft In “World and the Flesh ”
A gusty adventure story of the hectic days during the Russian Revolution is the current vehicle for George Bancroft at the Palace theatre. Bristling with tense dramatic thrills, it provides Bancroft with his most sensational characterisation since ‘ ‘ The Mighty, ’ ’ according to preview critics. Miriam Hopkins, blonde favourite of “Dr. Jcvkll and Mr Hyde," “The Smiling Lieutenant,” and “Dancers in the Dark,” heads the supporting cast which includes Alan Mowbray, Georgo E. Stone, Mitchell Lewis, Oscar Apfcl and Reginald Barlow. Bancroft is seen as the domineering sea captain, whose rough-and-ready sailor crew worship him. At the outbreak of the revolution they take an active part in the onslaught upon the aristocrats. Bursting in on a group of fleeing nobles who are feasting at an in in a seacoast town, they make tho fugitives their captives. Bat a counterattack by loyal Cossacks turns the tide and Bancroft, with three of his men, become prisoners. It is then that complications follow.
