Bather’s Grim Fight

Terribly Mauled in Battle With Shark

AMAZING PLUCK LATER DISPLAYED

United Press Association—By Eloctrio Tele graph—Copyright. Received Monday, 8.30 p.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 31.

Tho first shark attack of tho season

occurred at Redhead beach, near New-

castle, to-day, when Reginald Ogilvy, aged 24, captain of the Redhead Surf Club, was terribly mauled on both sides and one hand, while his lungs were perforated.

Ogilvie showed amazing pluck. After fighting off tho shark, ho struggled ashore with blood pouring from his wounds and calmly asked his friends to attend to him. “I’m done!” ho . then gasped, and collapsed. His condition is critical, but he is given a fighting chance of recovering.

In previous attacks by sharks no victim has shown more bravery than that exhibited by Ogilvie. He made no complaint when tho ambulance men were attempting to staunch tho blood from his wounds, remarking: “I can seo my lungs are gone, but I feel all right.”
