WOMEN’S INSTITUTE From Our Own Correspondent. A meeting of tho committee of the Kairanga Women’s Institute was held in tho hall on Tuesday afternoou when thoro were present Mesdames W. Hamlin (president), N. Cooper, D. Martin, J. H. Burmoister and Miss F. Gollis (secretary.) An apology for absence was received from Mrs. F. Collis. Following upon the routine business, Mrs. G. Davey, Misses D. Capp and R. Clark were appointed hostesses for the monthly meeting on November 8. For this meeting it was decided to hold a competition for tho best article mado from a sugar bag. Mrs. Will, of Kongotea, will give a talk and demonstration of icing a Christmas cake. A “Musical Stick” competition will provide entertainment. A large number of players turned out to tennis on Wednesday afternoon. It is pleasing to note that . presence of plavcrs who have been with the club since its inception and who have, given so much time and labour to make the club what it is. Miss V. Montgomery spent Labour week-end at the Chateau Tonganro with a party of friends. She: is cm thusiastic about National Park for a holiday. . , , Congratulations are being showered upon Mr. and Mrs. G. Collis on the arrival of their twin daughters. . . Many Kairanga farmers are availing themselves of the lush growth of grass to make ensilage this year. Some paddocks have already been harvested. Those fanners who have entries for the Eoyal Show are busy putting tho finishing touches to their exhibits. The school will bo closed on. Friday to enable the children to visit the show. It is understood that the month of November will see no,fewer than four weddings in Kairanga. It was with feelings of profound regret that Kairanga residents learned, of the passing of tho late Mrs. Matheson, one of the district’s pioneers." Worthy, kindly, helpful and sympathetic, she was deservedly beloved by all whose privilege it was to know her. Known as the ‘“mother of Kairanga,” her memory will long remain green in the minds of the older residents. The heartfelt sympathy of a large circle of friend’s will be extended to her family in their bereavement.
