From Our Own Correspondent. A football match was played on the Milson ground during the week-ond between the Seventh and Eighth Batteries for the Battery Cup, previously held by the Seventh Battery. Just after the kick-off Gardener secured the ball and potted a goal for Eighth. Up and down plav followed, until a passing rush ended in Ford registering a try. Gardener kicked the goal, putting Eighth-nano point 3 up. Seventh made a bold attempt and held play in Eighth’s 25 for sometime, but bad passing handling .and passing prevented a score. Half time sounded with Eighth clearing their territory. After the interval the Sevenths took play to their opponents' , end* hut Eighth retaliated, Whitehead adding another try. Gardener’s kick failed. Eighth 12—0. Up and down play followed, Eighths seing more of the ball. From a line-out Findlay secured and, beating most of his opponents, passed out to Gardener, who scored another try but failed to add the major points. Close play followed until a free kick gave Seventh a chance at goal, _ and Moore made no mistake. Eighth lo 3. This seemed to give Seventh heart. They secured another free kick, which found the line, and from a line-out the Sevenths took the ball at foot for Mitchell to notch a try, Philp kicking ,a good goal. Eighth 15 —8. The .Eighths put on another bpurt and Kingsbeer grebbed the leather, for another try, Gardener’s kick failing. Eighth 18—8. Seventh carried play down-field and Brock shot over to score, but Moore’s kick failed. The. final score was Eighth 18, Seventh 11. . . A cricket match of 12-a-side was played at Park Toad during the weekend between Terrace End and Railway team 3, Terrace End winning by .124 runs to 91.
