Hukanui

From Our Own Correspondent. Methodist Bible Class Rally. In tho Hukanui hall on Friday evening, August 19, tho members of the Hukanui Methodist Bible ■ Class held their first rally. Invitations were sent to the Pahiatua and classes, this making an attendance of 00 young people. A short devotional service was taken by Bov. H. Benny, of Eketr una, who also is the leader of the local Bible class. Tho evening was spent in games and competitions that proved very popular and those wno were successful in winning prizes wero Miss L. Udv, William Leith and lan Billington. Items wero contributed by Mrs. .Smith and Mr. H. Bailey, both of Eketahuna, Miss K. Smith and Mr. O. Jones, of Hukanui, these being greatly appreciated by all present. Mesdames Laurence and Billington had charge of the supper room, serving a very dainty supper which was provided by members of the Hukanui class. During the evening Bcv. 11. Benny, on behalf of the members of the Hukanui class, mado a. presentation to Mrs. Corlett (neo Miss Kitty Billington), who was a very strong member of the class, and since her marriage was unfortunately taking up her residence near Pahiatua uud would not be able to attend the class as in the past. Mr. Smith, on Dehalf of Mrs. Corlett, ably responded. The success of tho rally was chiefly duo to Miss K. Smith, secretary of the class, and her enthusiastic committee who worked untiringly. A most enjoyable evening was brought to a ciose with tho singing of “Auld Lang Syne. ’ ’ Weekly Shoot Last Monday evening the usual weekly shoot of the Hukanui Miniature Billc Club was held and the scores were as follow:—Ladies:. Mrs. Jti. W. Foss 68, Miss E. Cavanagh 68, Mrs. J. Grant 63, Mrs. Cavanagh 63, Mrs. D. Udy 63, Miss D. Lawrence 63, Airs. Watkins 58, Miss J. Cavanagh 43, Miss L. Udy 40. Men: B. Morris 69, B. W. Foss 67, E, B. Daldy 67, A. Parker 67, D. Udy 66, C. B. Eddie 65, B. T. Udy 65, Bex Udy 64, J. Grant 64, W. Watkins 62, A. F. Lawrence 60, W. Twcr.tyman .9, C. 11. Lawrence 60. Boys: W. Leith 60, H. Daldy 56. On Tuesday evening last 16 members of the local Miniature Rifle Club visited Eketahuna and emerged victors by six points. Hukanui still hold the

silver spoon which was donated by the Eketahuna club for competition between these two clubs. A small silver spoon was'also'donated for the highest individual score in the winning team. This will have to bo shot off for between Mrs. Foss and Mr. D. Udy as both secured a score of 96 Tho scores for the match were as follow: Eketahuna: G. Coster 98, J. Finn 95, W Daw-son 95, C. The memoers of tho Eketahuna club provided all with a dainty supper and ai enjoyable evening was brought to a close. Personal. Miss Kathleen Smith has returned to her home in Hamua, after a short holiday in Martinborough. Miss Beryl Udy, of Pctoiic, is flie guest of Mr. and Mrs. C. Udy, of Hukanui.

Miss Marion Twentyman is spending tho term holidays with her parents.

Mrs. Miller is a Petone visitor to Hukanui and is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Harrington. Miss E. Whitmore Searle has returned to her homo in Hukanui for the holidays. Miss Feast, of Martinborough, is at present relieving teacher at the local school. Miss Betty Harrington has returned to Hukanui after spending a holiday in Apiti.
