World's Largest Pumps

The largest pumps in the world have recently been employed in draining storm waters from tho city of New Orleans. Twelve of these monsters, each fourteen-feet pumps, each able to discharge GO,OOO cubic feet of water every minute, were in operation. A steel-bladcd screw, whirled like an auger bit by a powerful motor, propels tho water. New Orleans is built within a natural bowl, with no outlet for rain water to flow by gravity to the Mississippi River. Only seven such pumping stations would he required-in order to pump as much water as pours over Niagara!
