Variety Of Opinions About Women’s Wear On The Tennis Courts
The question as to what garment or garments a woman tennis player should wear on the courts would seem to be a vexed one, or at least. one on which there is a variety of opinions. At one time it was Suzanne Lenglen who set a fashion for all," the bandeau and the silk dress which covered the knee. Did not one see very soon such bandeaux and such dresses in every public park 1 It is Mrs Helen Wills-Moody who now dominates the game as effectively as ever Suzanne did. Mrs Moody wears a sun visor—some women affect one to-day,—but who wears dresses like the great Californian, dresses that extend well below the knee? Not many. . Instead there is a wide latitude indeed. One has seen (notes an English commentator), a photograph of a Miss Connie Zabriskc, of New York, playing tennis in Bermuda and wearing most abbreviated white shorts and a suggestion of socks. Miss Tomlin is playing in white shorts also, hut longer ones. There is a tendency for the younger players to adopt a skirt of positively rudimentary proportions. But docs it all help? it does not look pretty, and the best players do npt dress themselves this way. Mrs Moody, Miss Nuthall, Mrs Whittingstall, Frl. Aussem, Mme. Matthicu, and other bear out this statement.
