Gauze For Oil Filters
If the metallic gauze of an oil filter in which this material is used should Be damaged, no delay should occur in obtaining and fitting a new pieco if lubrication and bearing troubles are to lie avoided. But it is important that .tho new piece should be precisely the same mesh as tho old. A smaller mesh, will, admittedly, hold back smaller particles of foreign matter, but it will phoke too quickly, while a coarser grade will not serve its purpose so well as the makers of the engine intended. To be on tho safe sido the new filter gauze should be obtained from the car’s agents, which will ensure its being of ;the correct size and as well as of the proper mesh.
As a Tule choked nipples can be cleaned by xemoving them and holding them firmly in a vice so that the grease-gun can bo applied with tho greatest possible pressure, giving the gun violent jerks in an effort to force tho obstruction through the nipple. If this fails, then soaking in paraffin, and gently probing with a thin wire may be tried, a. new nipple being fitted if this treatment also proves useless.
