When Two Miners Fell Out

GUN DUEL IN CANADA’S NORTHWEST

New York Times Braodcasl. qUESNL, 8.C., April 19. North-west Mounted Police speculated to-night over the reason why John Kopok and Witold Nowokowskv, Russian miners and devoted friends for years, had killed each other in a gun duel. Policeman Vickers returned to-day from Antler Creek, deep in the back country, where the two men worked their claim. There was ample evidence, Vickers said, that they had shot it out at close range with revolvers. Nowokowsky fell dead. Ivopok, mortally wounded, did not touch the body of his former friend. Ho shouldered a rifle and attempted to walk to the nearest habitation, many miles away. Miners found his body on the trail. Division of gold may have caused the trouble, Vickers said.
