Footballers' Attire

BISHOP’S BAN ON SHORTS

A MORALITY CAMPAIGN

PARIS, April 23. Footballers playing in long trousers instead of shorts is the latest development in the morality campaign of the Bishop of Quimpcr. The priest at St. Gcrvais decreed that shorts- were indecent, as the players’ thighs wore visible. The teams donned trousers and excluded women spectators. At the neighbouring village of Loperhet, Brittany, Abbe Craignon instructed the women parishioners to punish their husbands and sons for disobeying the bishop's orders by allowing’their dinners to get cold. The bishop’s campaign began with dance halls. He declared that the modern dances were abominable and banned them. He agreed to allow old-fashioned dances, but these, he said, must be in the open air.
