Mr F. W. Christian, of Palmerston North, is at present spending a short Holiday in Hamilton. Later lie will proceed to Auckland. The death of Mr E. Davidson, an erstwhile resident of Palmerston North, is reported from Sydney. Deceased, who was 57 years of ago, was a prominent worker in the Labour movement in Palmerston North. The long and distinguished services of Sir Oliver Lodge in the field of electrical pioneering have been recognised by the presentation to him by the Institution of Electrical Engineers of the Faraday Medal. —British Official Wireless. The announcement is nmdo that Mr Charles Murray Turrell, of Wellington, traffic manager for New Zealand for the New Zoaland Shipping Company, has been appointed to succeed the late Mr J. B. C. Bond as Dominion superintendent of the company. Captain F. C. Steed, formerly stationed with his regiment in Baluchistan- and for the last three years at 'cached to the British Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, arrived at Auckland by the Maunganui on a visit to relatives in the Dominion. Ho will visit England before rejoining his regiment in India. Sir Francis Wylie, for 2S years Oxford secretary to the Rhodes Trustees, who is renewing acquaintance with former Rhodes scholars in New Zealand and reporting on their activities, arrived in Wellington on Wednesday. His itinerary provides for another fortnight in New Zealand, after which he will go to Canada, and next year to the United States. Mr C. M, Croft, Trade Commissioner for Canada, will leave Auckland by the Niagara on May 31 for Canada. Mr Croft visits Canada every four years, but ho did not intend to leave New Zealand until toward the end of the year, lie has been instructed by the Canadian Department of Trade and Commerce to leave earlier in order to attend in an unofficial capacity the Empire Economic Conference at Ottawa. Mr Croft, will be absent for at least six months. Mr J. A. Adams, manager of the Mangawhata Dairy Company, Rangiotu, has received the appointment of manager of the Lowgarth Dairy Company. Stratford, out of a large number of applicants, and will take up his duties in June. Mr Adams is well known to dairymen in the, Manawatu district, for though ho has been the manager of the Mangawhata factory for only four years ho is chairman of the Manawatu Dairy Factory Managers’ Association and one of the examiners in dairy factory work at Massey College. Mr Adams came to this district from the Collingwood Company, Nelson: The Council of the New Zealand University has awarded the University Travelling Scholarship in Engineering to Mr. Gavin T. Wilson, of Canterbury Colloge. Mr. Wilson received his primary education at the Petone District High School, and his secondary education at Wellington. Collego (1921-24). From 1925 to 1930 ho was a student at t-.ho School of Engineering, Canterbury University College, where in 1926 he gained the engineering second-year exhibition. In. 192 She passed the iinal professional examination for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering (electrical), and in 1930 the final. B.E. (civil). These degrees will be conferred on Mr. Wilson at the graduation ceremony to bo held at Canterbury University College this year. Mr. Gavin T. Wilson is the older son of Mr. Gavin "Wilson, M.X.M.E., who recently retired from the New Zeala'nd Railway Department. Mr. J. M. Saunders, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Saunders, of Fitzherbert West, who has been doing postgraduate work in the college department of Metropolitan Vickers in England for nearly two years, is making good progress with his studies. Ho has recently been elected president of the Students’ Association, having held the position of vice-president the previous year. Mr. Saunders was appointed producer for the college revue in 1930, and in 1931 was selected for the position of business manager for the college production. Ho has visited many places of interest in England, Scotland and Wales during his vacations, and speaks very highly of the hospitality shown him everywhere. Mr. Saunders was born in Palmerston North 25 years ago. Ho received his secondary education at Nelson Collego and afterwards went to Canterbury College, where he gained his degree of Bachelor of Engineering in 1929.
