Easterly Pays Another Price All started in the Hurdles, and when the macliino closed the favourites were Royal Lineage (£224), Balloon (£177) anil Arrowhead (£115), while the first day’s winner, Easterly, started at a nice price. Royal Lineage and Gaswyn went to tho front from tho start, and they led through tho straight from Henry of Navarre, Palm, Arrowhead, Balloon and The Sun, Going into the back Gaswyn and Royal Lineage wore together in front, with Henry of Navarre, Palm, Arrowhead and Balloon as their nearest attendants. The Sun jumped badly at the fence five furlongs from home and was pulled up. Running to the far turn and across the top Balloon and Easterly improved their positions. Gaswyn came down at tho fence at the three furlongs, going straight through. Balloon was first to turn for home, just in front of Royal Lineage, Arrowhead and Easterly, Full Mark and Pahu being next. Easterly put in a nice run at. the bottom of tho straight and led Balloon and Arrowhead over tho last fence, going on nicely to win by half a length from Arrowhead, which beat Balloon by a neck. Full Mark was fourth, followed by Guercss, Royal Lineage and Palm."

Royal Hunting Connects Royal Bengal (£253) was favourite for the Lockwood Handicap, with Royal Hunting (£206) and Orby’s Choice (£204) next in the betting order. AVhcn the field had settled down Royal Hunting was in front from Lady Court; and Royal. Bengal, with Chief Clerk, Orby’s Choice and Keaeonsficld handy. There was little alteration going across tho top, and Royal Hunting turned for home first, closely followed by Royal Bengal, Lady Court and Orby’s Choice, Grand Review being next. Royal Hunting was a couple of lengths to the good at the distance, but had to bo ridden out to beat Royal Bengal by half a length. Lady Court was a neck away, third, and Orby’s Choice was right up, fourth. The next to finish were Porlock, Boaconsficld, Lady Ronald and Pass On.

Spccclmint Hoads Chopin (Rational II was tlio only withdrawal from the Tamatoto Handicap, and of a field of a dozen runners there was most support for Spoedmint (£228), the winner, High Faintin’ (£199) and Arikira (£164) being next in demand. Chopin, which just failed, was sixth favourite. Jayson and Arikira delayed the start considerably and they were left when the barrier went up. Gold Dawn and Arrow Lad led through the straight the first time from Straightcoursc, Speedmint and Shewd. Arrow Lad took up the running as they rounded the turn, and he led into the back from Straightcourse, Gold Dawn. Shrewd and Chopin. Joio de Val and Statuary moved up ahead of Gold Dawn as they ran to the half mile, and Arrow Lad led into the straight from Statuary, Joio do Val. Chopin and Gold Dawn. Arrow Lad did not go on witli it, and an exciting finish resulted in Spoedmint getting up in time to beat Chopin by half a head, Statuary being only half a. length further away. Joio do Val was a good fourth, and (lie next to finish were High Falutin’, Shrewd and Arrow Lad.

Another Close Finish Easlertimo did not start in the StonyInirst Handicap, and in a fair pool .Rational II (£208), Pomp (£180) and Winsome Hind (£143) were sorted out as the ones most likely to return the dividends. Pomp ran to the front following the start, with Accra, Equitant, Patearoa and Winsome Hind following in that order. Patearoa dropped hack after going half a mile, and Pomp showed the way into the straight from Acora, Equitant, Winsome Hind and Rational IT. In the run to the judge Winsome Hind was the first to challenge the leader, and just short of the post Equitant, ‘Richfield, Atholspear and Rational II joined in, the last-named getting up in time to take second money three-quarters of a length away from Pomp. The next four horses finished almost in Lino, Richfield Inking third money. Equitant was fourth, and then came Atholspear, Winsome Flind. Acora and Maliora.

Brilliant La Moderne La Moderne won the Stakes in brilliant fashion, staging a very fine finishing run to get the verdict from Cotden Wings after he and Autopav had acted as the pacemakers. Inflation (£354) was favourite and Golden Wings (£317) was second choice. Golden Wings and Autopay were prominent early, and they led for the iirsc part from Fiji, Inflation and La Moderne. There was little alteration crossing the top, and Golden Wings turned into-the straight clear of Autopay and La Moderne, Fiji being fourth. At the distance Autopay and La Moderne challenged. La Moderne gradually overhauled the leader and was half a neck in front when the post was reached. Autopay dropped out just short of the post, and Inflation got up in time to take third money by a long head from Autopay, a length behind Golden Wings. Farmer was fifth and Esteem sixth. The winner paid a good price.

Headmaster G-ives Them a Load A big field of 18 runners paraded for the Nursery Handicap, most support being accorded .Speed (£28!)), Korcroa (£167) and Headmaster (£130). Late .Test was tenth in the betting order with £4l invested on his chances. The field was a bit unruly at the barrier, but a good start was effected, Headmaster leading out from Wasteland, Speed, Sir I’ombal and Late Jest. Headmaster set it alight going across the top and turned for home three lengths ahead ol Sliced and Wasteland, which were running together, Late Jest, Sir Pom bn I and Korcroa. Headmaster was never troubled in the run to the judge, winning nicely by a length and a. half from Late Jest, which headed Speed just short of the post. Gay Song was fourth, and the next to linisli were Fleeting Glance, Wasteland, Clangor, Korcroa, Sir Fombal, Nebulae and Ythan.

Good Effort by Seneschal Fairway (£291) was the favourite for t.ho Adderstono Handicap, Decree Nisi being installed second choice with £206. Seneschal, which ran second in t.ho Woodhey Handicap the first day, was only sixth in the betting order. When the field had settled down Lyrical was in front, and she showed the way into the back from In Vain, Fairway, Decree Nisi, Seneschal and The Mirror. Passing l.ho half mile Lyrical and In Vain were acting as pacemakers from Fairway. Seneschal and Decree Nisi, Air Laddie being seventh at that stage. Lyrical was first to turn for home, with Fairway in second berth, followed by Seneschal, Air Laddie and Gran Chaco. Once they straightened up Fairway and Seneschal issued a challenge. Seneschal soon settled the opposition, going on to win easily by a couple of lengths from the favourite, which was a. short neck in front of Air Laddie. Lyrical was fourth, followed by Attentive, Capetown and Gran Ghaco. Arisus Convinces

Aulopay and Gaupat were withdrawn from the Telegraph Handicap and Ansus (£39S), which was third to Consent and. Hampden in the Johnston Memorial on the first day, was installed a firm favourite. Lady Quex (£2t.'i) and Hampden. (£198) were next in demand. Ivaihoro was first to show out, but Aston soon ran to the front, and the Irish-bred galloper led at the half mile, followed by Hampden, Arisus, Lady Quex and Great Star. Running to the straight Lady Quex moved up ahead of Arisus, and the order at the home turn was Aston, Ivaihoro, Lady Quex, Arisus and

Great Star. Aston was still in front at the distance, but Cimabue and Arisus headed him, ami a good finish saw Arisus win by a length from Hunt the Slipper, which came from the back to Mil Cimabue out of second money right on the post. . Kaihorn was fourth, followed by Lady Quex and Aston.
