MANAWATU RACING CLUB. VI,SITING HORSES ARRIVE FOR AUTUMN FIXTURE. - COURSE IN SPLENDID ORDER, A number of visiting horses have arrived at Awapuni. to fulfil engagements at tho Manawatu Racing Club's autumn meeting, which opens to-mor-row, B. E. Pope arrived on the scene on Saturday with Tea Trader, High Comedy, Ganpat and Spcedmint and the horses, which were out on the track at Awapuni yesterday morning, are in tip top condition, particularly Tea Trader, who is a magnificent, specimen of a two-vcar-old.

Harry Cutts and T. Lloyd put in an appearance during the week-end, the former having Fleeting Glance, Winsomo Hind, Porlock and Straight Courso. His team, which is quartered at Attficld's stables, is in excellent, condition. Tommy Lloyd has Gay Crest and Tout lc Mond at Price’s stables. Gay Crest and Tout lc Mond have come through their Easter racing well and both are in the pink of condition. Nigktmarch is expected to arrive today.

Tho Awapuni meeting is attracting wide-spread interest and apart from the particular interest which attaches to the Gold Cup anu tho Sires’ Produce Stakes, patrons arc assured of exciting racing in tho other events. The Sires’ Produce Stakes is going to be the deciding factor in tho two-year-old supremacy for which tho local crack, Inflation, is well in the running. With Inflation at the top of his form the spectators can look forward to a thrilling race, and Tea Trader may be Inflation’s most dangerous opponent. With Nightmarch, a winner of the Melbourne Cup, and Gay Crest engaged, the Awapuni Cup will need no recommendation to lovers of racing. Gay Crest represents tho best New Zealand form at the present time and Nightmarch tho best Australian weight-for-age form, so that the race will resolve

itself into a contest to decide whether Australian form is better than that of the Dominion. Gay Crest and Nightmarch met earlier in the season iu the Hazlett Gold Cup at Dunedin, the tucc being decided over seven furlongs. Cricket Bat led the field home on that occasion with Nightmarch, who was having his first, run after the spell, a length away second, and Gay Crest half a length further back. They will each carry 9.2 to-morrow, and the issue is a very open one. The others in the race arc Gibraltar and View Halloa, carrying 8.6, and Speed Mint (8.4). The course proper was available for fast work at Awapuni yesterday rtiorn-

irig and there were a number of interesting gallops. The flags were well out from the rails and the going was good —in fact, it can safely bo said that the courso has never been in better order than it is at present.

All eyes were on Inflation (K. V’oitre) and La Modcrno (11. N. Wiggins) as tho pair of bonny two-year-olds strode up to tho seven furlong peg, tho starting point of the Sires’ Produce Stakes. There was no delay when they got to the peg, for they turned round and immediately jumped away together. The pace was oh from tho start and Inflation, who was doing liis .work in a wonderful maimer, was always leading by a couple of lengths, finally finishing well ahead of his opponent in the good time of 1.33 —a real good effort.

Not long afterwards, Tea Trader (K. Voitrc) and Lady Quex (H. N. Wiggins) hopped off at the six furlong peg. Tea Trader began brilliantly and was soon out in front, turning for home well clear. Tea Trader was much too good for Lady Quex and liis gallop was a splendid one for he cut the distance out in LIS). Gay Crest and Tout lc Mond were worked together over six furlongs but. not against tho watch. Tout lc Mond is a tine stamp of two-year-old and he will not be far away at the finish of the Wires’ Produce Stakes for ho has shown that he knows how to gallop, and ho was second to Inflation at the Cup meeting in November, the winner cutting the five furlongs out in 59sccs. Tout lc Mond will take liis place in the next A.J.C. Derby if all goes well in the interim.

RE-HANDICAPS. Successes at tho Masterton meeting on Saturday brought with them tho declaration of several rchandieaps, Capetown, who had won on the opening day of tho Wairarapa meeting, having to be given additional poundage as a result of liis second day victory. I'he complete list of rchandieaps is now as under: — Woodhey Handicap: Alpinist 5..1 to 5.7; Orby’s Choice 7.9 to 7.12; Lady Ronald 7.0 to 7.3. Prince of Wales Handicap: Grand Jury 8.6 to 8.12; Rational 11. 7.7 to 7.10. Te Matal Handicap: Capetown 7.2 to

As a result of his success at Masterton, Gay Song is not now eligiblo for tho Autumn Plate, whilo Clangor, who scored at the same meeting loses the 51b maiden allowance in the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes and will now bo required to carry 8.0. SCRATCHINGS.

Orapai, Thoruproof and Alpinist have been scratched for all events at tho Awapupi fixture. Decree Nisi will not run in the Te Matai Handicap and it is understood that lvalmuk is an unlikely starter iu the event. RIDING ENGAGEMENTS.
