"MAN TO MAN.” Grant Mitchell, who portrays Barber John in "Man to Man,” struggled for a living as a lawyer for three years until he finally decided he was unlit for the legal profession and turned his interest to the stage. After graduating from Andover University and the Y'ale Law College, Mitchell hung up his shingle in Columbus, Ohio, whe r e he was born on June 17, 1574. During the entire three years, he was retained by about six clients, according to Mitchell himself. With the definite idea of going on the stage firmly planted in his mind, he went to New lork and enrolled in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Within a short time, he made his stage debut with the illustrious Richard Mansfield in "Cicero,” at the Herald Square Theatre, showplaco of tho horse and buggy age. Employed by Charles Frohman, Mitchell spent six years with the theatrical producer, appearing in numerous plays. A turning point in his career came when he was obtained by George M. Cohan to create tho original "Tailor Made Man,” which lifted his name to electric'lights for the first- 1 time. Later, he created many roles in such plays as "Get Rich Quick Wallingford,” "It Pays to Advertise,” "The Championy” "The Whole Town's Talking,” "The Herd,” and scores of others. For the past two years, Grant Mitchell has toured the. country in a repertoire of his famous stage hits. His last stage appcaranco before entering the talkies w-as a revival of "It Pays to Advertise,” in Philadelphia.. ‘‘Sunny,” starring Marilyn Miller, Lawrence Gray and 0. P. Heggie -‘s the talkie for to-morrow, also Johnnie Farrell in "Duffer Swings.”
