Misfortunes of a Sleep Talker
A manufacturer living in the Nord Department of France has been convinced that silence is golden. His trouble is that he talks in his sleep. During a business visit to Paris he stayed at an hotel with a casual acquaintance. In his sleep he crie , “I hop© she will not steal tlie aOOO francs in my pocket-book.” When he awakened he was alone, and his poc e book and its contents had disappeared. He went to a polico station, and, on being told that no immediate assistance could be given, said he would commit suicide. He was thereupon locked in a cell with other unfortunate people. When night came he again talked in his sleep, and so loudly that his fellowprisoners took turns in boating him to keep him awake, so that they might in turn sleep in peace. On his arrival home he explained to his wife that he had been robbed by a pickpocket. But he again chattered in his slumber, and his wife learned the whole truth. ing him out, she entered a suit for divorce. The man thereupon sought refuge with his father, but v.hcn taking a nap bjr the fireside went over the whole story onco more. His father ejected him. and declared that ho would be disinherited. These facts were revealed when a woman was found guilty of having stolen the 3000 francs and sentenced to two months’ imprisonment.
