Amendments to Imports Duties Bill Rejected

INQUIRY AND REPORT ASKED FOR. United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Saturday, 12.30 a.m. LONDON, Feb. 19. In the committee stages of the Imports Duties Bill, Major G. Lloyd George (L.) moved an amendment providing that the imposition of the ten per cent, duty should be subject to inquiry and report. The amendment was defeated by 293 votes to 61. Sir S. Cripps (Lab.), in moving that the duties should operate on November 15, instead of March 1, said Britain ought not to be bound before the Ottawa Conference. The amendment was defeated without division.
