Commission Setup to Investigate Question

PROVIDING A SATISFACTORY SERVICE

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The announcement was made by Mr. H. D. Vickery, chairman of the New Zoaland Broadcasting Board, that Mr. A. Gibbs, chief telegraph engineer of tho Post and Telegraph Department, and Dr. M. A. F. Barnett, of the Scientific and Industrial Research Department wero the experts chosen by the board to investigate tho question of coverage and matters relating thereto. Mr. Vickery added that this commission would investigate fully and report upon the best available means for providing the most satisfactory broadcasting coverage for New Zealand, taking into consideration recent developments and having due regard to all such factors as:

(1) Tho distribution of population

(2) Topographical features. (3) Desirability of establishing relay stations and means of connecting the same with the distributing centres.

(4) The practicability of having one or more national stations giving nonfading reception all over the Dominion. (5) The power of tho stations, with a view to ensuring an adequate signai-to-noise ratio, and the adequacy of the existing stations in relation to power, modern features of design and the quality of broadcast transmission. In connection with the preparation of its report the Commission will short y visit various parts of New Zealqnd where reception is unsatisfactory ana investigate on the spot conditions affecting coverage. The opportunity will thus be afforded radio societies and interested listeners of pointing out tho difficulties under which they have been

labouring. . Societies and persons desiring to make representations to the Commission should notify the Board accordingly as early as possible, so that suitable atrangements may be made.
