The Forgotten Guest
The omission of the organisation of a banquet at Fresno, California, in honour of Major-General Smcdley D. Butler, to invito the general himself is not without precedent. Exactly the same thing happened when the late Lord Northcliffe rvas on his world tour. 'Members of a club in Egypt decided to give a banquet in his honour, and three hundred assembled at tho appointed time. They were drinking cocktails Snd waiting for Lord Nortkcliffo to appear when suddenly the secretary went quite white. “Great Scott!’’ he ejaculated, “the only man I have forgotten to ask is Northcliffe.’’
