VITAL STATISTICS. From Our Own Correspondent. The vital statistics for Foxton during the month of January, with the figures for the corresponding period of last year shown in parentheses, arc as follows: Births, 5 (6); deaths, 2 (1); marriages, nil (3); Maori births, —. (nil), Maori deaths, 2 (nil). THE WEATHER. Rain fell locally on seven days during January, the total fall being .94 cf an inch. The maximum fall occurred on Tuesday, the sth., when .58 of an inch was recorded. The hottest day was .Sunday, the 10th., when the temperature recorded was 6S degrees, while the coldest day was Wednesday, the (sth., when the thermometer registered 5S degrees SUMMER FROST. In the early hours of Sunday morning Foxton received a most unwelcome and unusual visitor in the form of a sharp frost. The visitation did considerable damage to local gardens, many tomato, cucumber and pumpkin crops being severely cut back.
