Hawke’s Bay Motorist Suffers Fractured Knee

ACCIDENT NEAR PAPATAWA. Mr. John Sloan, -who resides at SOS Cook street, Hastings, and who is connected with a well-known Hawke’s Bay stock linn, was injured in a painful accident yesterday afternoon —an accident which might easily have been attended with moro serious consequences. He was driving a car along the main highway near Papatawa and being too near the side of the road, the car ran off on to the grass. The vehicle was travelling at about 30 miles an hour at the time and Mr. Sloan, in attempting to steer between a power pole and the fence, collided with the former, which -was splintered by the force of the impact, while the car was badly damaged. The driver did not realise the extent of his injuries until later when, step ping out of the car, his knee gave way under him. He was admitted to the Dannevirke hospital where he was found to have a fractured . knee and facial abrasions. His condition last night was reported to be satisfactory.
