Women’s Institute

SHANNON. Wednesday was “Members' Day” at tho Shannon Women’s Institute. As an appreciation of their work on behalf of their institute during the past year, the committeo wero the guests of honour during the day. The arrangements of tho meeting were in tho hands of a special committee with Mrs. Owen as president and Mrs. Campbell as secretary. A descriptive account of ‘ I A Trip on the Continent,” specially propared by Mrs. Nieholls and read by Mgs. Bovis, proved a novel entertainment. Mrs. Nieholls was unfortunately unable to bo present tie r se'.f to deliver the address, but her versatile stylo made a written account of her travels both instructive and entertaining. A vote of thanks to Mrs. Nieholls and Mrs. Bovis was carried. Vocal solos, rendered by Mesdamcs Barber and Cronquest, were appreciated and a piauoforto duet by Airs, and Miss Pascell was a very enjoyable number. A dainty afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Mesdamcs Piggott, B. Edgington, Taylor, Misses Piggott ana Brady. Members of tho committee wore catered for at a specially prepared table, a feature of the decorations being the dainty mauve lavender Dags before each guest. These delightful little novelties were the work of Mrs. Nieholls. Mrs. Parcel], pianiste, and Mrs. D. Edgington, librarian, were also presented with ono of these mementos as a token of appreciation. A wordbuilding competition was won by Mesdames Clarkson, lugley, Radford and McLean, each of whom received a “musical instrument” as a prize, and at the request of the donor, Mrs. Bovis, gave an impromptu orchestral number. Mrs. Snelling, president, on behalf of her committee, thanXed Mrs. Owen and her assistants for a delightful afternoon’s entertainment and tho meeting closed in tho usual manner.

ZIMBOLTON. Tho January meeting of tho Kimbolton VV.I took tho form of a picnic at tho Kimbolton Domain. A thoroughly cnjoyablo afternoon was spent by the children, wno participated in races and games. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdamcs Shapleski, Schmitt, Scott and Thomson.
