Milk Is less likely to burn if tho saucepan is swilled out in cold water and a trifle left in the bottom before the milk is poured in. While tho bread is rising in the pans cover it with a damp towel over which is spread a dry one. The result will be a very tender, delicate top crust. Cretonnes will keep their freshness if washed in bran-water. To a gallon of water add a quart of bran and boil for an hour; then strain and use while warm. Each pieco of material should bo washed separately and finally rinsed in salt and water. When dry press on the wrong side with a lukc-warm iron. Eiderdowns that aro being stored for the summer should bo folded in three, lengthwise, and then doubled over before placing them in a dust sheet or cover mado for the purpose. By folding in this way creases aro avoided, and a silk cover is less likely to crack. To prevent moths, put a few carbon balls in the cover containing the eiderdown. Occasionally, during tho summer, the eiderdown should bo taken out and hung in the sun for a few hours.
Pickles should be boiled in enamel pans. Always uso a wooden spoon when stirring. Nor should pickles be put in or stored in glazed jars on account of tho effect of tho acid on tho glaze. Glass bottles are best for storing them.
