PREMIER LANG IS ABSENT FROM COURT

Fails to Obey Subpoenas

United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copy right. Received Friday, 7.50 p.m. SYDNEY, Jan. 22.

Neither the Premier (Mr. J. T. Lang) nor Mr. Goode (head of tho Transport Board) attended the Court in response. to subpoenas requiring their attendance, but Mr. yieeman (publicity officer) attended. Detective-Sergeant Watkins, resuming his evidence, said his report of Mr. Campbell’s speech to tho police chief contained no statement that he personally had been insulted by anything Campbell had said. Witness admitted that he had prepared a report for the Government concerning the objocts and activities of the Now- Guard, and that, this was of a most favourable character.

Other police evidence corroborated Sergeant Lendrum’s. The last evidence for tho prosecution closed late in tho afternoon and legal argument followed. The Magistrate ruled that the information was not as bad as claimed by counsel for the defence, inasmuch as it was not alleged that tho words complained of were insulting to any particular person. Tho hearing was adjourned until Wednesday.
