NEW YORK, Jan, 12, The Mayor of New York, Mr. J. J. Walker, has returned here empty-hand-ed from California, where he hoped to obtain political fame by securing the release of Tom Mooney, who is undergoing a life sentence for throwing a bomb at a, procession at Los Angeles in 1917.

Mr. Walker complains that Judge Seabury, who is investigating allegations of graft in New York, should cease “hostilities” on the ground that nothing sinister has been revealed, lt is a fact, however, that the Judge has just fined the Mayor’s right-hand man, Russell Sherwood, £IO,OOO.
