Swimming

Tho Terraco End baths on Thursday evening was the scene of a water polo match between the Terraco End and Apollo Swimming Clubs. The teams lined out as follow: — Terraco End (blue and black: L. Smith, J. Blakency, A. Valentine, K. Sapwell, S. Biddell, Y. Fleming, W. Schwarz. Apollo (yellow and blue): H. J. Anderson, W. Nicholls, L. Thorn, J. Kells, W. Gupwell, F. B. Law. Both teams started out a man short and Terraco End went immediately to tho attack to be repulsed by a long throw by J. Kells, and considerable ducking took place on the blue's line beforo the blue goalie put his side on the attack onco more and A. Valentine found the net with a hot one. Shortly after the throw in yellows were penalised for throwing while standing and a score seemed inevitable but the yellow goalie was safe. Yellows were again penalised when L. Smith, the blue left-winger, made no mistake— Blues 2—o.

At this stage Blakency joined the fray for the blues but J. Kells, who was going great guns for the yellows, got a good shot past the blue goalie.— Blues 2—l. Half time found the score unaltered.

The second half opened with the yellows going to the attack but their stay in the enemy territory was shortlived and blues carried everything before them for Blakency to net with a back-handed shot which was disallowed. After a period of splashing and ducking in mid-field blues onco again attacked and Blakency unwound a stinger which had the yellow goalkeeper beaten all the w-ay. Full time which sounded soon after found the blues victors by 3—l. Mr. I). C. Pryor refereed a game which made up in vigour what it lacked in science. The return match will be played in the near future.
