SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE
LONDON, Jan. 11. On the assumption that the King will take part in the opening of the Sydney harbour bridge, a conference was held of the various bodies concerned in the arrangement. It was reported that Mr. Brown, executive head of the Commonwealth Postal Department, had been consulted by telephone and had debated the principal difficulties, including the necessity for broadcasting at midnight, Greenwich mean time, to coincide with the 10 e.fn. opening in Sydney. Attention was drawn to the fact that at present the beam fades at about. 9 p.m. in England, though a seasonal improvement, may permit its use at midrdght on March 18. It was determined ' that only a technical impossibility would prevent his Majesty from officiating on the occasion. It was again suggested that, if the beam were not available for a personal message from the King, he might, press a button connected with a cable line and thus perform tho opening ceremony.
